Our kids are mostly indoors surrounded by tech devices, so the more we can get them outdoors appreciating nature the better. This play idea involves walking around your garden or perhaps right around your block, collecting leaves, flowers, sticks, whatever you can find or your child takes an interest in. My daughter loves doing this probably more than the rest of the activity, but she is only 2.. A slightly older child would most likely get more into the painting.
Once you have collected some things, you can bunch them together in colours and talk about the colours with you child. Then we can stick them in the foil pots. I chose to cover baby formula tins and baby food jars in foil because my daughter likes the crunching of the foil and it can be easily decorated too.
We painted the foil pots and the sticks with cotton wool by dabbing it on as we haven’t quite mastered the art of the paint brush just yet!
A $1 plastic table cloth to cover a surface makes the cleaning up easy and prevents big messes. Although now I have a child old enough to be interested in paints, I am going to need some dedicated painting clothes as I found out today! 😳
We hope to do some more with some actual flowers next time! 😄
